Webpanel safety and privacy

Everyone is asking me about safety and privacy of this project so I want to share a little bit about.

So first You need to know is that I don’t need any access to Your Home/iCloud account.

Webpanel is a separate software running as a webservice so it’s like regular webpage.

Webpanel don’t fetch data, You need to push it first.

My software is only collects and processes information You send to collector.

So if You want to start You need to create automations that will send data for analysis. You can specify what you want to accumulate it is full freedom.

I found out that people are afraid of sharing personal data, but to be honest what I can do with Your temperature or humidity measurements or even information abut move detection or lights status?

You’re not able to send information about door, for example door lock status (Apple kill such automation so no data will be send even if You want).

Regarding My native Homekit firmwares, they need communication with home environment. But security is provided by the Apple ecosystem. Accessories are not able to access any data from home or even talk with other accessories. Only information exchange is between single accessories and Apple device like iPad, iPhone or Apple TV.

My accessories are design to work without internet access. So if You want You can disable internet for them on firewall and open it only for software updates or configuration change. Of course to download new software or config file device need to access web service https://connect.dziky.pl.

As I mention it’s a hobby project that I’m doing it for myself and couple of my friends so You can stay with certified accessories and Home App as a homekit dashboard it’s all Your choice. If You want to try go ahead and tell metell about your experiences! I don’t store any private data like IP, Location or any information witch allow anyone to locate You. Email address is used only to login process and account verification no mailings, newsletters or any offers content send by mail.

I understand that You don’t want me to create Your profile behavior, but I do not have the required information, no access to google or apple database 😊 I can see (if I want) do You like low or high temp in You house and that’s it.

I hope I have dispelled at least some of your doubts. If you still think that the project is not safe for you, I fully understand you and congratulates you on a strict approach to managing your data.
